Turnstone Publishing Group

Turnstone Publishing Group created a series of books in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for use in middle schools. We designed and developed a series of web sites that extended the material in those books and supplied teacher support. We helped refine and structure Turnstone's vision and found the most appropriate technologies to make that vision a reality.

Features:

Dive to the Deep Ocean is one of 16 sites--each supporting one book. We have developed a modular approach with templates and "server-side includes" that allows efficient deployment and maintenance.

Each of several hundred activities derives its content from a database. Each page contains links to supporting materials--these links are generated automatically based on a naming convention and Java code.

We created a suite of editing tools that allowed writers from around the country to write these activities and other content by merely filling in forms on a standard browser.

We created a series of interactive quizzes using JavaScript.

We also created a series of games using Macromedia Shockwave.
